General Information
The International
Baccalaureate Middle Years Program values community and service. the Community
service is a vital component of our society. Education neither begins nor ends at the classroom door and
essential aspects of learning exist throughout our larger communities. For our students, service learning projects
will balance the emphasis we place on academic achievement with outside
experiences and interests that benefit others. These beneficiaries may come from any given community that
can benefit from the contributions.
The community service project should be personally challenging and foster
a sense of individual growth.
Students should develop communication skills and community awareness and
concern, a sense of responsibility, and the skills and attitudes needed to make
an effective contribution to society.

Project Focus
The
community service project should include three critical components: Creativity; Action; and Service.
Creativity. Please take time to choose a project that matches your
creative interests and abilities.
Creativity can be interpreted as imaginatively as possible to cover a
wide range of arts, music, dance, literature, design, organization, critical
thinking, project implementation, teamwork, leadership etc.
Action. Action primarily involves the physical activity or
physical component of the service project. Your actions should positively impact the world around you
and be seen by others as a significant contribution of your time and effort.
Service. Service means positively contributing to the
school, local, national or international community to make life better for
others. You may not be paid or
receive any other merit or credit for the project you chose. The project may not benefit your family
or directly impact a for-profit venture.
