Superintendent Dr. Shonny Bria passes away, November 24, 2021

It is with deep regret we inform you of the recent loss to our school and community. On Wednesday November 24th our Superintendent, Dr. Shonny Bria, passed away unexpectedly. Dr. Bria was our school leader for over seven years. She led our school courageously throughout many challenges. This loss is sure to raise emotions, concerns and questions for our entire district, especially students, staff and community members who knew Dr. Bria.

The staff at Grand Canyon Unified School District is committed to addressing the needs of students, parents and staff at times like these. The school will have our counselor and community members trained in crisis management available for any student or staff member who may need or want assistance surrounding this immense loss.

We also request that you as a parent or guardian also feel free to utilize these resources. We have included some information that may be useful to you in helping your child at home. We are deeply saddened by this loss to our school community and will make every effort to help you and your child as you need.

A memorial celebration of Dr. Bria's life is being planned for early January and details will be posted here as soon as available.
